CAPITAL FUNDRAISING CAMPAIGN 2015-2016

Everyone is talking about mental health... Salus is doing something about it... And you can too!

People with serious mental illness are at increased risk of living in substandard housing and of facing "homelessness" making their illness much more difficult to manage.

YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!

We are reaching out to our community, inviting your support for our Capital Campaign of $2.4M to complete construction and provide 42 individuals with a permanent home.

Salus recognizes that recovery begins with a stable home.

The Salus communities provide a variety of housing options to accommodate the needs of our clients.  All housing options include ongoing professional support for all tenants, as well as programs that promote healthy living, positive recreation and most important a community.

The waitlist for Supportive Housing in Ottawa is between 5 and 7 years long.

Ottawa Salus is proud to have been selected to partner with the City of Ottawa to build and manage a new apartment building on Clementine Blvd.  Our new building will provide 42 studio apartments.

"To quote the CEO of the Mental Health Commission:

'A house is so much more than a roof over one's head.  It represents dignity, security and, above all, hope.'

And that is something Salus has been providing for 38 years."

Dwayne Wright, President, Ottawa Salus Board of Directors

The building will be the first affordable housing project of its kind in Canada to meet the "Passive House" environmental standard, one of the highest energy standards in the world.

In fact, the entire 4 storey, 42 unit building will have the same energy consumption as one single family home built in Canada today!

The design and construction will allow us to be good neighbours and environmental stewards by saving energy and reducing building operating costs.  This, in turn, allows Salus to direct our limited budget to where it is needed the most:  supporting our clients.

The building will feature the following common spaces:
• A centrally located multi-purpose room with kitchen will encourage interaction and community
A sunroom with access to a patio and rear garden will promote wellness
• Laundry facilities, community workers’ office and other common spaces for programming and services that will provide continuing support to all residents

Individual units will provide a home that is:
• Quiet and tranquil
• Draught free and supplied with continuously filtered and tempered outdoor air
• Free of excess moisture and the health risks associated with mould
• Equipped with energy star appliances
